A mobility robot is a powered personal-transport device that uses sensors, gyroscopes and motor control to keep the rider stable and level. How is a mobility robot different from a normal power wheelchair?
A standard power wheelchair rolls in a straight line and relies on the rider to manage terrain. A mobility robot actively controls its own posture — the seat stays level as the base tilts, wheels can strafe sideways or spin on the spot, and the chair folds itself. That means safer slopes, tighter indoor turns and less physical effort for carers.
Is a robotic wheelchair suitable for everyday UK use?
